What's a BIOME?

A biome is a community of plants and animals that live together in a particular climate. The climate and the land of any area on earth's surface will determine what can live and thrive there. These living things and the climate they live in make up the biome. Some biomes are on land, and some are in water! Biologists have names for earth's biomes. For this project, you will discover one of these branches of the 6 major biomes:

  • Desert: semiarid
  • Grassland: tropical grassland (savanna) or temperate grassland
  • Forest: tropical forest, temperate forest, or boreal forest (taiga) 
  • Tundra: arctic tundra or alpine tundra
  • Freshwater: ponds & lakes, streams & rivers, or wetlands
  • Marine: shoreline, temperate ocean, or tropical ocean
