Passive Voice

A. Change Active to Passive (English)

Change each active sentence to a passive sentence. The meaning of the sentence doesn't change - only the emphasis on a subject.

  1. Brutus killed Caesar. Check Answer
  2. We fed the fish in the lake. Check Answer
  3. Will you watch the concert? Check Answer
  4. He bought a CD. Check Answer
  5. The soldiers are binding the prisoner. Check Answer

B. Change Passive to Active (English)

Change each passive sentence to an active sentence.

  1. The parents are surprised by their son. Check Answer
  2. The toga was woven by Livia. Check Answer
  3. The crime was witnessed by the orphan. Check Answer
  4. The wedding will be attended by no one. Check Answer
  5. Has this seat been taken? Check Answer

C. Change Active to Passive (Latin)

Change each active sentence to passive as in the English sentences above. Remember three steps to do this in Latin:

  • Direct Object-->Subject
  • Active Verb-->Passive Verb (and agrees with the new subject)
  • Subject-->Ablative Agent
  1. Puellae canem vident. Check Answer

  3. Nautae naves amant. Check Answer
  4. Puellae undas spectant. Check Answer
