Mudsock Week 2012 - Two Great Schools, One Awesome Community
August 3rd, 2012
This year, the August 24 high school football game between district rivals Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School promises to offer much more than friendly competition. Community members, students, teachers, and parents are partnering for a weeklong celebration of athletics and community service.
Beginning on August 20, a collection drive of new and gently used sporting equipment will begin at both area high schools as well as several sporting events. The drive will benefit Indiana Sport Corps’ Geared for Health program. This program distributes sports equipment to help jumpstart a more active lifestyle for local, underserved youth. The collaboration demonstrates how students can make a positive difference in their own community.
“It is very exciting to get our young leaders engaged in giving back to their community.” says Dani Robinson, board member with Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation (HSSF). “The foundation’s mission is to enhance the academic experience for our students and teachers. The partnership with Gear Up for Health allows us to expand beyond grants and scholarships and provide a service learning component to participating students."
A limited number of specialty tickets to this rival football game are being sold for $35 and include adult-only VIP end-zone seating, private concessions and restrooms. Funds generated through these sales support student scholarships and teacher grants essential in maintaining the tradition of academic excellence throughout the Hamilton Southeastern District. Tickets are available online at www.hsefoundation.org or through both high school front offices and include a $30 tax deductible contribution to the HSSF. The event is sponsored by the Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation in Partnership with WISH-TV 8.
