Student reading under a tree

Recommended Reads

Young Hoosier Books

We had several students participate in reading Young Hoosier Nominated books from this 2016-2017 Young Hoosier List this year!

Stay tuned for information on how we will run the program and how to participate next school year! In the meantime, check out the 2017-2018 nominees

Summer Reading Recommendations

The HIJH summer reading recommendation books are chosen by looking through book award winners including the ALA award winners, looking at the Young Hoosier Book Award nominees for the upcoming year, looking at book reviews, and more to gather books that are high interest and will appeal to a variety of readers. The lists are certainly not required reading. Several of the books will push readers to grow in some way (i.e. learning about another culture or about history, developing empathy for others), but more than anything these lists are about trying to help or continue to develop a love of reading!

The 2017 lists will give you titles, authors, genres, and awards. It will also link each title to the Goodreads page of that book to see summaries and reviews. (You can also see the entire list on Goodreads directly if you wish here for 5/6 or here for 7/8.)
