All meetings will be in the Library/Media Center until 3:45, but students can have rides pick them up earlier if needed. Students will get picked up at the front entrance – Door 1. I tried to schedule meetings for Wednesdays every 3 weeks, but there were conflicts, so there is one Thursday meeting, and some meetings that are further or shorter apart than 3 weeks. Academic Team - 7th & 8th Grade

Open to all 7th & 8th grade students who are interested in spell bowl or the academic bowls, or both. We will concentrate on spelling from August through October; however, students may also practice academic trivia during that time if not interested in spelling. Practice for the academic bowls will take place from November through April. Students can earn an academic letter by participating the entire year, August to April, and do not have any unexcused absences. We meet Tuesdays after school 2:45 – 4:15 in the library/media center. Chess Club

Attention 5th and 6th graders! Do you like to play chess? Would you like to learn how to play chess or learn new strategies? If so, we’d love for you to join our chess club! We’ll meet after school on Thursdays from 2:45-3:45 in Mrs. Bowman’s room (Room 226). Permission slips are available in the office and in Room 226. There is no cost to join. Please turn in your permission slip to Mrs. Bowman by Friday, September 29. Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 5.

Comic Book & Gaming Club

Do you love Comic Books or Games? Come “geek-out” with Jedi Master Brown at the new Comic Book & Gaming Club! We will play new board and card games featured at Gen Con while discussing our favorite Comic Books, Super heroes, and their movies. All grades (5-8) are welcome! Destination Imagination - All Grades

Participants: 3rd-12th grade students Description: Destination Imagination® is a creative problem-solving program for students. They work on predetermined challenges that focus on STEAM principles. Teams of seven members or less work together to create, design, and present a solution that is completely student created without any adult interference. The students learn teamwork, innovation, solving problems, budgeting, presentation skills, and conflict resolution. Teams perform their solutions at a local/state tournament. Documentary Film Club

This 5th and 6th grade club will be creating the documentary film called "The Making of Thrill the School." The final film will be premiered at the "Thrill the School" event after school on October 27th. Students will learn the roles and responsibilities of careers in the filmmaking industry. Students will learn how to use a variety of apps to create the film and will assemble it using Moviemaker. Applications are available through Canvas and outside the Art Room #302. Applications are due September 8th to Mrs. Knecht.

HIJH Connect (All Grades)

Come “connect” with others through fun games, yummy snacks and small group discussions. Connect with classmates and talk about important topics that you deal with on a daily basis: stress, peer pressure, social media, friendships and many other topics. Meets after school 2:45 – 3:50 pm.

HIJH Yearbook Staff (Grades 7/8)

Requirements include commitment, independent and team member projects, creativity, prior experience with cameras, publication layout and design and appropriate computer applications. Applications and interview take place the end of August. Meets Thursdays after school 3:00 – 4:00 pm.

Math Bowl Team (Grades 5/6)

Requirements: If you are a great mathematician and you enjoy working in teams to solve difficult math problems, this club is for YOU. We will start in late October, and our State wide competition is usually at the end of February. This is a club that has a qualifying test and cuts are made. If you love Math, this is the academic club you will definitely want to check into each year!

National Junior Art Honor Society

Open to 8th grade students enrolled in either Full Year or Semester Art. This is a service and team bonding organization that will meet quarterly at 7am in room 304 (Ms. Gammon's room.) Members will be updated with service and other art opportunities, as well as any revised meeting dates/times through CANVAS. New members will be accepted through October; chapter membership is $5.00. Meeting dates (subject to changes and additions): August 23, October 25, January 10, March 14. Induction ceremony TBD in May.

National Junior Honor Society (8th Grade)

Requirements: Students are selected based on GPA during the spring of the 7th grade year to submit an application if they meet the eligibility requirements. By April of their 8th grade year, they must maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA, complete 50 hours of community service, and demonstrate good character in order to be formally inducted in May of their 8th grade year. Painting Club - All Grades

This Art Club will focus on PAINTING! A variety of materials will be used as you explore your interest in painting. Maximum number of participants is 28. Club runs end of September - Beginning of November. After school until 3:45.

PBC: Panther Broadcasting Company (Grades 7/8)

Students need some background in video and video editing and/ or willingness to be in front of a camera. Students are required to fill out an application with interviews taking place in early September. Additional members will be added as positions become available. Additional after school meetings will take place each month till 4:00. Students will also be filming daily announcements during SLT on a monthly rotation. 7th graders looking to get involved in the club need to watch for applications in mid-January (2018). PBC will look to add a team of 7th graders to the club during quarter 3 and have them introduced to anchoring announcements and running the equipment late spring. This "team" will then be the core group for the PBC fall of 2018.

Photography Club - All Grades

This club will be open to all students in the building with good character. We will not only be taking pictures during club time, but also editing and working on presentation skills. The goal is to have amazing photos matted and ready for the Tri-Kappa Photography contest in April. We will meet on 8 Wednesdays beginning February 7th and ending April 11th (skipping March 28th,) from 2:55 to 3:55. Maximum participants will be 40.

Rocket Club

Have a blast! Are you excited about science? Are you curious about rocketry? Rocket Club is the experience for you! Participants will launch straw rockets, paper compressed air powered rockets, water bottle rockets, solid fuel rockets, and more!

Science Bowl Academic Team (Grades 5/6)

Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate & Junior High will be participating in the Indiana Science Bowl Competition for grades 4-6. This academic team is open to all 5th and 6th grade HIJH students for tryout. Team members will experiment and spend time learning collaboratively. The Science Bowl is a ninety-minute online competition divided into three segments: team answered questions, team experimentation questions, and individual answered questions.

Spell Bowl Team (Grades 5/6)

The Spell Bowl is open to all 5th & 6th grade students who are great spellers and enjoy Spelling Bee type competitions. Spring Musical (Grades 7/8)

Audition to be a part of the cast or fill out an application to be a part of the crew (backstage, technical, costumes/makeup, publicity) for the spring musical. Ultimate Frisbee - All Grades

Ultimate Frisbee Club has started. This is open to all students 5-8 grade. If you are looking for a great workout and an opportunity to meet new people, come join us! We will work on Frisbee skills at the beginning of practice, then break into teams and scrimmage. Meet in Mr. Beesley's room (room 321) after school and have a ride ready to pick you up at the main entrance at 4:15. We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday.
