Fishers High School student, staffers honored for energy-saving efforts
May 18th, 2012
Fishers High School junior Thom Lunik, president of the Energy Conservation Club, received a new Apple iPad 2 as a winner in the Energy Action Patrol based on his leadership in the Energy Action in Schools initiative. Fishers High school was selected to participate in the Energy Action in Schools program sponsored by the Indiana Office of Energy Development, US. Department of Energy and Duke Energy.
In his leadership role, Lunik has “established short- and long-term goals for the school and developed actions plans with minimal impact on school resources,” said Rob Seymour, dean of students. Plans include organizing a student-driven recycling program, applying for grants to provide funding for energy efficient lighting and sharing the club’s message via a monthly newsletter. He also would like to incorporate a criterion that requires club members to volunteer service hours toward energy conservation programs at the school.
In addition, teacher and Energy Conservation Club Sponsor Heather Ferguson and Custodian Joy Kiskaden received second place recognition for their leadership and efforts in Energy Wise Champion and Custodian categories, respectively.
For more information, contact Rob Seymour at 317-915-4290 or Kelly Van Dusen of the National Energy Foundation at 81-327-9500, ext. 118.
