The Hamilton Southeastern district FFA Horse Judging teams went to the Purdue-sponsored state judging contest at Hendricks County Fairgrounds and earned the right to go to the national competition later this year. The teams judged eight classes of performance and halter horses and competed based upon their placings and oral reasons.
HSE’s senior team, all HSE High School students, with Shelby Riley (senior), Kyleigh Kimbrell (junior), and Hannah Allaben (sophomore) won the contest and are state champions. Hannah Allaben won first individual overall for the contest and was second in oral reasons. Shelby Riley was individual overall winner in oral reasons.
HSE’s junior team of Kayleigh Crane (FHS freshman), Isaac Cook (HSEHS sophomore) and Taylor Tamarri (HSEHS sophomore) was fourth overall. Individually, Kayleigh Crane placed fourth overall and Isaac Cook earned seventh.
The team is coached by Tom Younts, who is in his 35th year of teaching and coaching in the agriculture program at HSE.
