FHS Honors German students earn recognition on national exam

Fishers High School students enrolled in a German honors class participated in the National German Exam in January. Usually administered only to a teacher's top students, Hamilton Southeastern Schools has all students enrolled in a German honors level language class take this annual exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. The data received enables staff to assess student progress and achievement.

Of the 89 students in the different honors level classes, the following 32 students will receive Certificates of Merit from the American Association of Teachers of German for scoring at or above the 70th percentile ranking in their respective levels:

Level III HN– Alec Balasko, Janka Gal, Kyle Pratt, Nathan Greiwe, Jessica Tease, Benedicte Heigaard, Henry Mills, Ethan Hammerstrom, Emily Vahary, Elizabeth Mcevoy, Luke Holder Justin Strommen

Level II HN – Ryan Sharkey, Sean Flannery, Abigail Johnson, Noah Ervin, Kitti Gal, Kyle Harder, Andrew Smith, Korinne Wolfmeyer, Styrling Brown, Kevin Krause, Nolan Hannah, Claudia Brooks, Alexandra Reibel

Advanced Levels (IV/V/VI) – Isabel, Strobel, Oliver Strobel, Amber Kline, Brenna Owings, Davis Ellison

Additionally, Alec Balasko, Janka Gal, Kyle Pratt, Nathan Greiwe, Jessica Tease, Oliver Strobel, Isabel Strobel, Brenna Owings, Ryan Sharkey, Sean Flannery and Abigail Johnson achieved an Award of Excellence by scoring in the 90th percentile nationally. They are eligible to apply for a summer scholarship study-tour to Germany.

Special congratulations go to Brenna Owings who ranked in the Top 10 in Indiana of Advanced Level non-native German speakers.
