Lauren Rees
Varsity Head Coach

This is Coach Rees's first year leading the Tiger program, after coaching within the Fishers High School Softball program last year. She comes to FHS from Ben Davis, where she was the head JV coach. Lauren is a 2005 graduate of Shelbyville High School. As a Golden Bear, she was a three year Varsity volleyball player, a two year Varsity basketball player, and a four year Varsity softball player. She continued playing softball at DePauw University and was a three-year starter. With the DePauw Tigers, Lauren had the opportunity to play in a Regional Championship game three out of four years. In 2007, the Tigers made it to the Division III World Series in Salem, West Virginia and finished fifth in the nation. She graduated in 2009 with a double major in English Literature and Spanish. Lauren is thrilled to be a Tiger again at Fishers High School and looking forward to great things for the program. We hope to see you at the fields!

John Brooks
Assistant Head Coach

John Brooks is starting his first year as the Varsity Assistant Head Coach at Fishers High School. He is a teacher at Riverside Junior High, where he teaches 8th grade math. He has been a teacher in our corporation for the past 7 years. He has taught for 15 years, including 5 years as a sixth grade teacher at Riverside Intermediate and the last 2 years at Riverside Junior High. Coach Brooks has been a part of the Fishers High School athletic staff since its conception in 2006. Last year, he was the Assistant JV Coach for softball. He is currently the Varsity Assistant Coach for the Lady Tigers Basketball program. He has assisted with the varsity football team for the past 7 years, including 2 years as the Varsity Assistant Head Coach. Coach Brooks helped take a starting program with no seniors the first year, to a State Championship program in year five. He currently volunteers as the Director of Football Operations for the football program. He was also the Riverside Junior High’s 8th grade Head Basketball coach for the past 3 seasons. Coach Brooks brings over 24 years of coaching experience to our program. Coach Brooks graduated from high school in 1989 and entered the U.S. Army. He served over two years and was stationed at army bases in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Mannheim, Germany. After the military, Coach Brooks attended Ball State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching in 1995. He received his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Walden University in 2005. Coach Brooks and his family moved to Fishers in 2006. He is married to Kim (who teaches at Sand Creek Intermediate), and he has two daughters (Katie, 16, at FHS and Kirstie, 13, at RJH). Coach Brooks credits his wife, Kim, for his continued desire to coach at the highest level. Her understanding and patience for a coach’s busy schedule is what allows him to continue to shape the hearts and minds of our young student athletes.

Jim Werdell
Varsity Hitting Coach
This is Jim's first year coaching for the Fishers High School Softball program. He relocated to Indiana, from Florida, almost 3 years ago.
He has been involved with youth programs, both in Florida and here, for the last 9 years. During that span, his teams have won 3 "A" State Titles, 1 World Series, and 1 Super Regional.
He and his wife Nicole reside in Fishers and have two children enrolled at FHS, his 14-year-old son Britton, and his 16-year-old daughter, Skyler.

Rachel Benson
Head White Team Coach

This is Rachel’s third year coaching for the Fishers High School Softball Team. She played softball for Hamilton Southeastern High School under Dave Cook for four years. Rachel attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison in which she was a member of the softball team. During her freshman year, the University of Wisconsin softball team made it to Regional’s of the NCAA tournament. Rachel was also a three year member the Wisconsin Lightweight Rowing Team, who were National Champions two consecutive years. She graduated in 2009 with a BA in Political Science from Wisconsin.

Ashley Kohl
Assistant Coach
This is Ashley's first year as JV Assistant Coach for Fishers High School. Outside of coaching Ashley is a full time dental hygienist in Carmel. She has been a member of Dr. Aileen Helton's team at Dentistry On 116 since May 2008. Ashley is a 2003 graduate from Shelbyville Central High School. She was a three year Varsity volleyball player and a four year Varsity softball player. During high school Ashley was a starter on competitive club volleyball and travel softball teams throughout central Indiana. After graduation she completed courses at the University of Southern Indiana prior to acceptance into a dental hygiene program. Ashley graduated with an Associate of Science in May 2006 from the Indiana School of Dentistry. Ashley and her husband Derick have been residents in Fishers since 2008. They share a blended family with two sons: Kyler age 10 and Jaxstin, almost 2. Between softball, work, and family activities Ashley volunteers as a parent leader at her son's daycare and is an active member of their church. She is extremely excited to pass along her knowledge and passion for softball to Fishers High School's young athletes.

Adam Stevenson
Head Gray Team Coach

Adam Stevenson was hired at Fishers HS in 2007 to teach English and coach football, and this will be his first season coaching softball. In 2009 Adam also became the Head JV Football Coach where his FHS JV teams have posted a 25-11 record in four seasons. He is a 2001 graduate of Hamilton Southeastern HS where he was a 3-year starter in both football and baseball. He was named Team MVP, All-Conference, and All Metro-North teams in baseball his senior year. Adam played runningback at Hanover College for four years. He was twice named to the all-conference team and was voted captain and team MVP during his senior year. Following graduation, he spent two seasons as the runningbacks coach at Hanover and did graduate work on his degree, serving as a research assistant for the Hanover College education department. He has been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a student at HSE HS and at Hanover College as well as being active here at FHS. He and his wife Karly reside in Fishers and have a 2-year old son, Luke Michael, and a 6 month old daughter, Kinley Ann.

Sue McDowell
Assistant Coach
Sue McDowell returns to coaching after a hiatus of several years. Nevertheless, she brings with her a vast history in the sport of softball. While she participated in volleyball and basketball in high school at Plymouth Salem High School in Plymouth, MI, she started four years on the varsity softball team. Sue received a scholarship to play softball at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN, and was a four year starter. Throughout her high school and college years, Sue also participated in a number of softball leagues and travel teams.
Upon graduation, Sue served one year as an assistant coach at Indiana State University. She then moved on to start the softball program as Head Coach at Terre Haute South Vigo. In her first year the team went 25-3, and was state-runner up. Sue completed 4 seasons at the school, compiling a varsity coaching record of 74-12, including two sectional titles and two regional titles, along with state runner-up title.
Sue enjoys camping and bass fishing, and participates in several fishing tournaments per year. She also looks forward to an annual trip to Holiday World with family and friends. Sue enjoys travel, and is planning a 2014 trip to Scotland, Ireland, England and Paris. She strives to stay in shape, and set an example for her players, by doing CrossFit workouts at least five times a week. Sue is very excited to participate in, and contribute to, the Fishers softball program, and looks forward to many successes this season.
