Intramural Athletics
Travel Basketball - These teams
are available to sixth graders only. Try-outs will
begin in October for the boys and in December for
the girls. These teams will practice several times
a week and compete in a 10 game season against
other schools in the area. There is a $50 fee
for this team with a possible additional travel
expense per athlete.
Volleyball - If you are interested in learning
the game of volleyball, join the intramural volleyball
team! All 5th and 6th grade girls and boys are
welcome to join. During intramurals, all students
will be introduced to the fundamental skills
of the game including passing, setting, hitting,
and serving. At the end of the session, students
will practice what they learned by competing
in a round robin tournament against other FCI
students. All practices are held after school
in the FCI gym. This club will run from February
- March.
Track - During the months of April and May,
FCI will be offering intramural track. Practice
will be after school until 4:00. There will be
2 track meets at the end of the season. Each
student will be allowed to participate in up
to three events in the first inter-squad meet.
Events included are the 1600m, 800m, 400m, 200m,
100m, 400m relay, long jump and high jump. The
top 3 in each event at the first meet will then
participate in the tri-meet with Riverside and
Sand Creek Intermediate. Students will be coached
in the proper techniques and strategies. There
is a $10 fee to cover supply costs.
Cross Country - Cross Country consists of distance
running and is available to 5th and 6th grade
students. Cross Country can help you improve
your mile run times for Presidential Fitness,
build new friends, and improve your physical
health. There will be two meets this fall, one
at FCI and one at Riverside Intermediate School.
Academic Teams
Spell Bowl - Members of the
Spell Bowl team will participate in try-outs
in September. The team will consist of 12 members.
Eight of these members will contend at the Spell
Bowl competition. The Spell Bowl Competition
will be in the FCI gym in November. This club
is for both fifth and sixth graders.
Science Bowl - Science Bowl is available to
both fifth and sixth grade students. If you are
interested in the world of science and enjoy
experiments and problem solving, try out for
the Science Bowl Team! We will work both individually
and in teams to study various science topics
and explore different scientific themes! We will
then compete in the state-wide competition online.
Science Bowl try-outs will be in mid-October.
Math Bowl - Math bowl is a fantastic club for
both fifth and sixth graders. If you are a great
problem solver and marvelous mathematician, you
should join Math Bowl! We will work in teams
of three to solve challenging math problems as
we prepare for statewide competition in the spring!
Call outs will be after Fall Break.
