Ceramic Lessons

Clay is awesome! Squishing clay can be therapeutic and a great way to relax with friends. Throughout the eight sessions students will continue to build on the skills they developed from art class. We focus on fundamental hand building skills such as pinch pot, coil, and slabs and also how to use molds to create vessels. This is a great opportunity for students to get the extra experience in ceramics that they do not get in the regular art class.

Durbin Student Council

To become a part of the Durbin Student Council, students have to campaign for their position to represent the student body. Students deliver a speech to their class as well as make a poster to rally votes. Only 3 students from each 3rd and 4th grade classroom are selected as members of the Durbin Student Council. Once elected, student council members are responsible for reading lines in the school-wide Veteran’s Day assembly. They also are asked to volunteer and help organize for great Durbin events such as the Winter Carnival, Kindergarten Round-up, and the Senior Breakfast. Student council members also help promote awareness for Riley spirit days by creating announcements and making signs to hang around the building. Outside of attending monthly student council meetings, a Durbin student council member has jobs around the building. For example, student council members sacrifice their recess time to help empty the recycling bins around the building. Student council members are expected to keep in good academic standing throughout the school year.
