Cumberland Road Elementary is located on Cumberland Road, north of 131st Street, in the town of Fishers, Indiana. The school was built to open for the 1980-81 school year. Due to the continued growth experienced by the Hamilton Southeastern School Corporation, Cumberland Road completed a major renovation/addition during the 1994-95 school year to bring our enrollment up to 600 students. Existing rooms were remodeled, and the school added three kindergarten rooms, eleven classrooms, and storage space. The school features wide, well-lit hallways that display student work.

operations and staff!
An Extraordinary Staff
There are ten sections of half-day kindergarten, nine sections of first grade, eight sections of second grade, six sections of third grade, and seven fourth grade sections. On staff we have a licensed, full-time special education teacher and a full-time speech/language pathologist. We also have a full-time counselor and several licensed experienced teachers who serve as instructional assistants. Other staff members meeting the needs of the students include: an art teacher, physical education teacher, music teacher, librarian, gifted and talented education teacher, a developmental teacher and two assistants, a nurse, two secretaries, a full-time treasurer, four custodians, six cafeteria workers, and thirteen bus drivers. The physical facilities include 32 classrooms, a library, an art room, a music room, a gym, a cafeteria, a computer lab, an outdoor nature center, a playground, and a kindergarten playground.
The staff at CRES believes in making learning real for students. Hands-on activities are incorporated in lessons at all grade levels. Teachers have been trained in Intensive Phonics, Math Their Way, Math Their Way of Thinking, Reading for Real, AIMS, and Delta Science. Academically, students do very well on standardized tests and students and staff at CRES have been recognized as a Four Star School during the last seven years by the State of Indiana.
Activities and Organizations to Become Part Of
Many opportunities outside the basic curriculum and school day are offered to students. Some extra-curricular activities include Just Say No Club, Spell Bowl, Student Council, Junior Great Books, choral groups, 4th grade track team, International Club, Peer Tutoring, New Comers Club, Camp Cumberland, and Very Important Roadrunners. The school building is used by the community for scouts, 4-H, adult recreation, and boys' and girls' athletics. The YMCA offers before and after school care to our families as well as a kindergarten program.
Cumberland Road parents belong to the P.T.O. and are very active as volunteers in our school. Volunteers work in the classrooms and office regularly. Our P.T.O. is very active in getting families involved and raising money for additional school equipment.
Cumberland Road is an exciting place where learning takes place every day. This school succeeds, not because of any one thing we do or do not do; it works because of all we do. Students strive toward being independent learners who want to do their best. We are committed educators who truly expect and prepare for students to learn. Families send children to school ready to learn. They make education and our school a priority in their lives. Support staff cares for children and know that their education is the main purpose. We all work together and the result is Cumberland Road Elementary, a school committed to excellence in education!
