FJH students compose, arrange music performed in spring orchestra concert
May 23rd, 2012
Three eighth grade students in the Fishers Junior High Philharmonic Orchestra composed and arranged music that was performed in the Orchestra Spring Concert “Pop It, Bow It, Pizz It.” The student composer/arrangers were Taylor Byrd, Dorian Thompson and Michael Yu.
Taylor Byrd, the arranger of “Heart of Courage,” has been studying the violin for three years. She was inspired to arrange “Heart of Courage” by merely listening to the song. Taylor felt that “Heart of Courage” would be an interesting, challenging piece for her orchestra to try.
Eighth grader Dorian Thompson has played cello for three years. She also plays piano and guitar. She arranged two pieces--“We Are Young” and “The Katy Perry Medley.” She chose them because of their up-beat and happy tempo fit in with the rest of the concert.
Eighth grader Michael Yu has played violin for three years and piano for nine. He wrote an arrangement of “One Republic’s Secrets” for string quartet and piano.
