Sister Cities Association of Fishers, Indiana (SCAFI) is the
nonprofit agency representing the town and the community of Fishers in long-term
partnerships with international sister cities communities. SCAFI was
incorporated in 1986 as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization and is a member of
Sister Cities International, which was founded in 1956 by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower. SCAFI mission and goals focus on enriching the Fishers community
through educational exchanges, business development opportunities, and citizen
diplomacy via involvement in learning about solutions for global challenges and
thought connecting with people from other cultures.
Fisher's sister city is Billericay, England, which is a family-oriented
community 60 miles east of London. Billericay Park, located on Promise Road and
126th Street was named for Billericay, England.
The World Connection Club at HSE High School was instrumental in organizing a
student visit to Billericay and a tour of London several years ago. They also
organize a Billericay Day every April with contests and cultural information
about England.
Sister Cities activities include working with the Fishers Park Department to
create Billericay Park in Fishers, offering an international speaker forum on
world issues, and organizing and sponsoring the annual Renaissance Faire in
Fishers.
